Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Welcome to Finny ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains what information Finny collects, how it is used, and the choices you have when you use our mobile app and related services.

In short: Finny works without an account, and your financial data stays on your device unless you choose to sign in and use features that need our servers. We don't sell your data, show ads, or use third-party analytics or advertising tools.

2. Using Finny Without an Account

You can use Finny without signing in. Your entries, categories, budgets and settings are then stored only on your device, and we don't receive them. Some features always run on your device, for example Smart Search, which uses Apple's on-device model. Face ID is handled entirely by iOS; Finny never receives your biometric data.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Account Information

If you sign in with Apple, we receive your name and email address as Apple shares them (Apple may give us a private relay address instead of your real email). We also store the display name and profile photo you choose, and whether you have an active Finny Pro subscription.

3.2 Cloud Backup

If you turn on Cloud Backup (requires signing in and Finny Pro), your entries, categories, payment methods, budgets, recurring rules and hashtags are stored with our cloud hosting provider so they can sync between your devices.

3.3 AI Features

AI features (Finny Pro, signed in only) send the content you choose to log, such as text you type, receipt or screenshot images, and payment notification text, through our server to a third-party AI provider, which returns the transaction details. Our server does not store this content. The AI provider does not use it to train its models and may keep it for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse.

3.4 Voice Input

Voice input uses Apple's speech recognition, which may process your audio on your device or on Apple's servers under Apple's privacy policy. Finny never receives or stores your recording; only the resulting text is used to create the entry.

3.5 Receipt Photos

Photos you attach to entries are saved on your device and, when iCloud is available, in your own private iCloud storage so they appear on your other devices. They are never uploaded to our servers; we only store a reference that links a photo to its entry. You can remove all attached photos at once in Settings.

3.6 Other Information

• Feedback and feature votes you submit, and your optional answer to "How did you find us?". These are anonymous and not linked to your account.
• Subscription status. Purchases are processed by Apple; we never see your payment details. Our subscription management provider receives purchase information and an anonymous app identifier.
• Crash reports, only if you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iOS settings. These come from Apple and don't identify you.
• Exchange rates are downloaded from a public service. No personal or financial data is sent with these requests.

4. How We Use Your Information

• Provide the features you use, such as Cloud Backup and AI logging
• Provide support and fix problems
• Keep Finny secure and prevent abuse
• Improve Finny based on feedback
• Send service-related messages, such as replies to your support requests

5. Data Storage and Security

Data stored with our cloud hosting provider is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access rules ensure each account can only read its own data. We may access your synced data only when needed to provide support, fix problems, or keep the service secure.

Our service providers may process data in countries other than your own. We only use providers that protect data with industry-standard safeguards.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We share it only:

• With service providers that help run Finny (cloud hosting, AI processing and subscription management), only as needed to provide their service
• With your consent
• When required by law, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users or Finny

7. Data Retention

Data on your device stays until you delete it or delete the app. Synced data stays on our servers until you delete it. When you delete a synced entry, it is permanently removed from our servers. Turning off Cloud Backup stops syncing but does not remove data that was already backed up. Our hosting provider keeps encrypted backups for a limited time, after which deleted data is gone from them too.

8. Your Rights and Choices

• Export your entries at any time as a CSV file (Settings, Export Data)
• Edit or delete any entry in the app
• Turn Cloud Backup off at any time
• Use Finny without signing in

9. Children's Privacy

Anyone can use Finny without an account, and their data then stays on their device. Signing in, which is needed for Cloud Backup and AI features, uses Sign in with Apple, which Apple does not offer to children under 13 (the age may vary by country or region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have, please contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the "Last updated" date.
